This may be my favorate photograph. The double breasted cormorant just surfaced with a shad. A hering gull saw the opportunity to steal it from him. The cormorant will attempt to dive underwater. Sometimes, in the scramble, the fish will be released and swim to safety. Occasionally, luck will play a role in nature and all the characters are in the right place for a meaningful photo. Photo taken at Carnegie lake, Princeton NJ.
